more »Rome, 02/10/2018. Today, an emergency demonstration, "Mimmo Uno Di Noi!" ("Mimmo [Lucano] one of us!") was called by Arci Roma, Arci Lazio e Baobab Experience to protest against the arrest of Domenico 'Mimmo' Lucano, Mayor of Riace, globally famous and studied to have "saved his village [Riace, in Reggio Calabria Province, South of Italy] by welcoming refugees" (Source BBC News website, here:

Domenico Lucano is accused and been detained under house arrest by the the Procura di Locri over his alleged involvement in organising "marriages of convenience" to 'overtake' immigration regulations. Moreover, the Mayor is accused to have allegedly allocated the 'notorious' garbage collection service to two companies without going through the required public procurement procedure. However, the two 'companies' are community co-operatives established to provide work for the people of Riace and migrants as part of the "Modello Riace" (Riace's Model), the town's migrant programme of work, integration, cooperation, in other words a model to try solving the longstanding European Migration Crisis. The more serious crime which the Mayor was under investigation of, abuse of public funds, was rejected by the investigating judge.
