Rome, 14/12/2019. Today, tens of thousands of people gathered in Rome's Piazza San Giovanni holding the first demo in the Italian Capital of the growing "Sardines" movement. The Sardines (1.) was founded in November in Bologna to protest against the leader of the far-right party Lega/League Matteo Salvini (2.) launching the campaign for the Emilia-Romagna regional election. Lucia Bergonzoni, Lega/League former deputy Minister of Culture, will compete in the elections against the Democratic Party PD president, Stefano Bonaccini. One of the four founders of the Sardines, Mattia Sartori, 32, told AFP: "We are anti-fascist, pro-equality, against intolerance, against homophobia", as protesters sang the anti-fascist anthem Bella Ciao. A city based on culture, art, solidarity and sense of community. All this is endangered by those who want to describe us as a frightened people, by those who build consensus by exploiting an aggressive and provocative rhetoric, by those who think politics is a drama, by those who are convinced that everything can be exploited for a few more votes. The good news is that there is an alternative.
