London, 27/05/2017. Today, feminist group "Sister Uncut" held a march from Camden Road Station to HM Prison Holloway (Largest women's prisons in Western Europe -
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HM_Prison_Holloway), where fellow protesters had already occupied the Visitors Centre (and its roof) of the adult women and young offenders' prison which was closed in July 2016 (with prisoners being moved to HMP Downview and HMP Bronzefield) and sold for housing. The aim of the demonstration was to protest against Theresa May's Government cuts to women's services and against the proposals for the former prison 10-acre site to be used as a £2 billion housing development, including luxury flats. Heavy police presence cordoned the area of the visitors centre. From the organisers Facebook event page: <<On June 8, the UK could cement another 5 years of Tory rule. This would mean 5 more years living under a government whose extreme cuts, public service sell-offs and racist, sexist and disableist policies endanger the daily lives of women and non-binary people. Some examples of the attacks this Conservative government have subjected women and non-binary people to: At least 34 specialist domestic violence refuge services have closed since 2010, disproportionately affecting women of colour; 85% of the Tories austerity measures have fallen on women, most affecting disabled women, single parents and working class women of colour (The Womens Budget Group, 2016); In March of this year the government, following pressure from Women's Aid, pledged to make it easier for domestic violence survivors to vote anonymously and safely - but not in time for this election! […]>>. I left the area of the protest around 20:30 and the occupation was still going on.
