Today, more than 60,000 people gathered in Manchester to attend a march and a rally organised by the TUC (Trades Union Congress) under the slogan: "No to Austerity, Yes to Workers Rights". The day of action, coinciding with the inaugural day of the annual Conservative Party conference, ended at Castlefields Arena with a rally Organised by the TUC & the People's Assembly. The Conservative Party conference held this year in the heart of Manchester (from the 4th to the 7th of October) has been protected by heavy police presence, "police cordon" metal barriers (Introduced for the Public Sector Strike of the 30th of November 2011, You can find the photos here: http://bit.ly/1WIpuOJ ), helicopter, and snipers deployed for "observation only" as subsequently stated by the Greater Manchester Police.
