Christine Lagarde, Managing Director of the IMF (International Monetary Fund), arrives at LSE (London School of Economics) where she will deliver the "Amartya Sen Lecture 2014" on the theme of 'Empowerment' and will have a debate with Professor Amartya Sen (Professor of economics at Harvard University and recipient of the 1998 Nobel Prize in Economics, he is an honorary fellow of LSE) and Professor Craig Calhoun (American sociologist and Director of LSE). Christine Lagarde is a French politician and an anti-trust and labour lawyer. She has been the Managing Director of the IMF since July 2011. Previously, she worked as a partner with the international law firm of Baker & McKenzie, where in October 1999 she elected chairman (until June 2005). In 2007 she was appointed Finance Minister of France in the Sarkozy's centre-right Government.
