London, 10/10/2015. Today, hundreds of people gathered in Parliament Square to protest against the plan to build the 3rd runway at Heathrow Airport. The demonstration was organised by "HACAN - Against Heathrow Expansion" and the speakers, among others, included: John McDonnell MP (Shadow Chancellor and Member of Parliament for Hayes and Harlington), Zac Goldsmith MP (Conservative candidate for Mayor of London and Member of Parliament for Richmond Park), Sadiq Khan MP (Labour candidate for Mayor of London and Member of Parliament for Tooting), Sian Berry (Green Party candidate for Mayor of London), Caroline Pidgeon (Liberal Democrats candidate for Mayor of London), Peter Whittle (UKIP candidate for Mayor of London). From the organiser website: <<A third runway would mean another 250,000 flights a year. That is a terrifying prospect for people already bombarded by aircraft noise. The third runway would be London's 8th in total - above most equivalent cities across the world. And a new runway will mean a new flight path. More noise for more people.[…]>>.<br />
