Today, War on Want, School of Law at SOAS and the Russell Tribunal on Palestine presented a meeting called "On Palestine, G4S and the Prison Industrial Complex", hosted by Angela Davis (American political activist, scholar, and author. She emerged as a nationally prominent activist in the 1960s, as a leader of the Communist Party USA, and had close relations with the Black Panther Party through her involvement in the Civil Rights Movement despite never being an official member of the party. She is the founder of Critical Resistance, an organization working to abolish the prison-industrial complex. She is a Distinguished Professor Emerita of History of Consciousness and Feminist Studies at University of California, Santa Cruz), Gina Dent (American political activist, writer and scholar, known for her leadership in the Black civil rights movement and her pioneering work against the prison industrial complex; she is Associate Professor in the Feminist Studies Department, History of Consciousness, and Legal Studies, University of California, Santa Cruz, and she is a leading global advocate for human rights and prison abolition) and Rafeef Ziadah (Senior Campaigns Officer at War on Want, speaking on G4S: the business of repression and the challenge of solidarity). Chair of the event were Brenna Bhandar (Senior Lecturer, School of Law at SOAS) and Frank Barat (Coordinator, Russell Tribunal on Palestine).
