Rome, 30/06/2019. Today, a demo (1.), part of the permanent mobilization which is taking place in several squares across Italy, was held in Piazza dell’Esquilino in solidarity with the Commander of the Sea-Watch 3 Ship, Carola Rackete, who was arrested on Friday 28th of June 2019 and risking up to 10 years in jail. Protesters, activists & members of the public protest against the decision of the Interior Minister Salvini (League – Lega,
http://bit.do/eE7Ey) to keep closed the ports to NGO vessels, against the arrest of Carola Reckete, but also people want to show that Italy is still a welcoming Country and that its people are aware & supporting International Laws which impose to rescue people. Moreover, the rally was organised against the rising of fascism, racism, intolerance, and against the policies of the coalition Government League - Five Star Movement, especially the so-called Decreti Salvini / Decreti Sicurezza (Now Law of the Italian Republic, Legge 1° Dicembre 2018, n. 132,
http://bit.do/eE7uo, and Decree Law n. 53, 14 June 2019,
http://bit.do/eV3iZ), made by Matteo Salvini accused by protesters to be racist and restrictive of civil liberties. The Sea-Watch 3 is a ship of the humanitarian German group Sea Watch (flying a Dutch flag) (2.). It rescued 42 people in the Mediterranean on June the 12. It remained on stand-by in front of the port of the island of Lampedusa (Sicily) since 15 June without the possibility to disembark the exhausted people on a safe port due to the hard-line on migration of Salvini's policies and actions. On 26 June, the commander of the NGO vessel, Carola Rackete, tried to enter the port without authorization citing an emergency situation on board but the attempt was blocked by the Guardia di Finanza. On 27 June, Carola Rackete was formally put under investigation, and then she was arrested on 28 June.
