At the end of the consultation, an open 'Primary Election', allegedly 1.7 million PD supporters went to cast their vote for one of the three main candidates: Nicola Zingaretti (President of Lazio Region, and former member of the European Parliament, 2.), Maurizio Martina (Secretary of the Democratic Party PD, and former Minister of Agriculture of Italy, 3.), Roberto Giachetti (Member of the Chamber of Deputies, and former Vice President of the Chamber of Deputies, 4.). Around 20:05, from the PD HQ Gianni Del Moro (PD's Spokesperson for the leadership/primary election) announced that allegedly their target of 1.5 million voters was exceeded. Around 21:45, the [now] former Secretary Maurizio Martina announced and congratulate Nicola Zingaretti as the new Secretary of the Partito Democratico (Democratic Party, PD) with allegedly around 66% of the votes.
