London, 19/04/2017. Today, "Axe The Housing Act - Secure Homes For All" held a demonstration in Walworth Road, heart of Elephant & Castle and now main Land Lease building site for the £1.5 billion regeneration scheme to redevelop the area around the Elephant & Castle road junction, Land Lease development called "Elephant Park". The aim of the protest was to highlights that the regeneration plan which led to the demolition of the Heygate Estate will provide 2,704 new homes of which only 82 will be social rented. From the organiser Facebook event page: <<Protest at former Heygate estate Southwark, being turned into 'Elephant Park' by developers Landlease and Southwark council: 1,100 council homes demolished, replaced with over 2,000 homes with less than 80 for council/social rent. We demand homes local people can afford; homes for people not investment (wherever the money comes from)!>>.<br />
