London, 12/06/2014. Today, activists from Women Against Rape tried to point out what they consider the hypocrisy of the #TimeToAct (End Sexual Violence in Conflict) global summit at the ExCel Centre London. They brought rape survivors, who are asylum seekers, to challenge Theresa May who was due to host a public session called: "Modern Slavery: The Burden On The Victim And The Role Of The Criminal Justice System". But, she was replaced by Karen Bradley MP (Conservative Member of Parliament for Staffordshire Moorlands), Minister for Modern Slavery and Organised Crime. The activists unfurled a banner that read: "UK Stop Imprisoning And Deporting Rape Survivors". Noorella, a rape victim from Sierra Leone, tried to speak but was swiftly moved on by security, amongst a standing ovation and to a cheering crowd outside the discussion room 4 who listened to her talk about the issues faced by rape victims when they try and find asylum in the UK.
