Melpignano (Salento, Puglia - Italy), 24/08/2013. XVI Edition of the International Music Festival "La Notte della Taranta". The festival, held in the southern Italian region of Apulia, is an important part of the Pizzica folk music tradition (instruments: traditionally violins, mandolins, guitar, flute, accordion and large tambourine) celebrated with both music and dance. The Pizzica is a popular Italian folk dance, originally from the Salento peninsula - in Apulia region - and later spreading throughout all the Puglia and Calabria regions and eastern Basilicata. It is part of the larger family of tarantella dances. Musicians and dancers from everywhere in the world every year come to play in front of hundreds of thousands people in the town of Melpignano for the grand finale called the "Concertone".
