London, 09/08/2014. Today, the third national demonstration in support and solidarity with Gaza's population saw tens of thousands of people taking to the street of central London. Gaza has been battered by a month long campaign of Israeli sea/air bombardments and a terrestrial invasion. Since the IDF (Israel Defense Forces) launched the Operation Protective Edge on the 8th of July 2014, 64 Israeli soldiers and 3 civilians (including 1 Thai worker) have been killed, 450 soldiers and 80 civilians wounded; the number of Palestinians killed during the Israeli raids reached 1911 people including a large number of children, 10,000 wounded people, 26 health facilities have been damaged, 10,800 homes (of 65,000 people) have been totally destroyed or severely damaged, and the homes of 33,100 people have been damaged but are still inhabitable (source Wikipedia). After gathering outside the BBC HQ in Portland Place, the sea of people marched through central London, passing by the US Embassy, arriving peacefully in Hyde Park where many prominent figures made speeches. The march was organised by, amongst others, War On Want, Stop The War Coalition, London Palestine Action, FOA - Friends of Al Aqsa, PSC - Palestine Solidarity Campaign, BMI - British Muslim Initiative, Palestinian Forum in Britain, and Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament.
