Sibari (Cassano allo Ionio, Calabria - Italy), 21/06/2014. Today, more than 250,000 people welcomed Pope Francis for the mass which ended his visit in the town of Cassano allo Ionio in Calabria (South of Italy). Pope Bergoglio travelled to this town to show support and solidarity with the family of "Cocó" (Nicola Campolongo), the three-year-old child who, last January, was murdered and found in a burned-out car alongside his grandfather Salvatore Iannicelli, 52, and his girlfriend Ibtissa Touss, 27. The police investigation uncovered that the homicides were committed by killers affiliated to the 'ndrangheta (based in Calabria, currently the most powerful and biggest of the three Italian mafia syndicates, which is mainly specialized in global drug and arms trafficking, extortion, homicide and radioactive waste disposal) because of a drug debt between rival clans which went unpaid. During his homily in the Piana di Sibari (ex Insud area), Pope Francis accused the 'ndrangheta of <<adoration of evil and contempt for the common good. Those who go down the evil path, as the Mafiosi do, are not in communion with God. They are excommunicated>>.<br />
