London, 01/04/2016. Today, two British far-right extremist groups, Britain First and the EDL (English Defence League), held two separate marches and rallies in reaction to the recent Westminster terror attack in a 'designated area' between Trafalgar Square, Whitehall and Victoria Embankment. A counter-demonstration was called by the Anti-Fascist Network, London Antifascists and Unite Against Fascism (UAF) to oppose the extremist right-wing racist rhetoric and exploitation of the attack by attributing responsibility to Muslim communities and migrants. A heavy riot police presence (with the aid of an helicopter, police horses and dogs) was in the area trying to keep the three factions separated: the EDL in a Whitehall pub and Britain First moved directly to the Embankment. The situation for the anti-fascist groups was different, while they were trying to march from Trafalgar Square to their designated area in Embankment close to the Ministry of Defence HQ, police imposed Section 14 (As explained in a Police information leaflet called: "Police Information UAF Protest" - see IMG_4859), arresting and taking away several left-wing activists. The anti-fascist rally was decimated by this police tactic, leaving a very small counter rally to confront the two extreme right-wing groups.
