"Agabi" (Single piece of green and red Alabaster).

London, 12-15/08/2014. I met with the Artist George Georgiou at an art gallery in Camden Town where his pieces were exhibited and then in the garden of his London home while he was carving a new piece. Better to present his work through his own words: <<All my pieces are hand carved from driftwood, farmer wood and Indian alabaster. I use the direct method, drawing directly on my material, cutting and re-drawing. My tools are traditional hand forged and ground Balinese chisels, knives and gouges, all objects are either sanded and waxed or left with signs of carving and then waxed. Materials are farmed woods (small in diameter) or drift wood and shape, colour, grain and size often dictate its selection.
My subjects are evidence of the various cultures and environments that I have lived in. Some objects are heavily influenced by the cultures in which they are made whilst others reflect my own ancestry, particularly the myths and legends of the Greek gods. Aphrodite features heavily, allowing me to experiment with carving the female form with a healthy dose of my own imagination and its academic background in psychology and perception of illusions>>.
