Associazione Antimafie Rita Atria (1.) held a rally in Viale Amelia 23 to mark the 27th anniversary of the death of Rita Atria, the 17 year-old Sicilian Testimone di Giustizia (Cooperating Witness / Judicial Collaborator / Antimafia Witness of Justice) who committed suicide - throwing herself from the balcony of a safe house - a week after the Strage di Via D'Amelio and the death of Judge Paolo Borsellino (2.): "I do not want to live after the death of the judge who was my only hope…"<br />
In 1985, Rita Atria's father, Vito, a pastor affiliated with Cosa Nostra mafia, was killed in an ambush, she was 11. Then, Rita became attached to her brother Nicola and her sister-in-law Piera Aiello. Nicola, also a mafia man, told Rita intimate confidences on mafia dynamics & business in Partanna (Siracusa, Sicily). In June 1991, Nicola Atria is killed, his wife Piera Aiello denounces the murderers and collaborates with the police. In November 1991, at the age of 17, Rita decides to follow in her sister-in-law's footsteps. The first to collect her revelations is Judge Paolo Borsellino (Then Prosecutor of Marsala), to whom he binds as if to a father (Used to call her Picciridda, toddler). The depositions of Rita & Piera allow to arrest numerous mafia members of Partanna, Sciacca, Marsala and to start an investigation on Democrazia Cristiana MP Vincenzino Culicchia, for 30 years mayor of Partanna (3.)<br />
