Bihać, Bosanska Krajina, Bosnia, 15/12/2018.The Bira camp is a former fridge factory located outside Bihac. It is managed by the UN (ONU) agency called IOM (OIM) - International Organization for Migration. The camp is a huge hangar and it composed by tents and containers (mainly located in the area dedicated to most vulnerable people and families) 'donated' by the EU, Turkkizilayi, Crveni Kriz Grada Bihaca. The camp has got also a Health clinic, the "Klinika", provided by DRC Danish Refugee Council and UNHCR and EU (UE). The People met outside the Klinica who showed their medical refers, their wounds and injuries claimed that they were beaten up by the Croatian Police which also allegedly stole their money and broke their smartphones after they were found trying to cross the border between Bosnia & Croatia, the beginning of the so called "The Game" (1.). The very dangerous end of the "Balkan route", the undetected border crossing throughout Croatia and then Slovenia, which people try numerous times to reach Italy or Austria. If they caught crossing any of the borders, they will be deported back to Bosnia, at "square 1 of the Game".
Clothes, food and a little bit of entertainment for the Children are provided by the Crveni Kriz Grada Bihaca, the Bosnian Red Cross, which also manages a sort of canteen.
The IOM (OIM) provided data about the People living in the Bira camp while this reportage was made:
-2067 people are the inhabitant of the camp (but obviously the number changes a lot and often)
-187 unaccompanied minors all boys, mostly from Pakistan;
-80 families: 325 family members, 145 children, 78 boys, 67 Girls.
Moreover, the IOM (OIM) informed journalists that 550 People will go to the Borici camp when it's restructured and refurbished, mainly the most vulnerable people: families and unaccompanied minors.
