Rome, 04/06/2018. On 4 June 1944 the American forces took possession of Rome, that Day is remembered as the "Liberazione di Roma". Today, to mark the 74th Anniversary of that day, Rome celebrates one of his most popular areas and a "Quartiere simbolo della Resistenza" (District symbol of the Resistance): Centocelle (Municipio V -
https://bit.ly/2esBcBX), conferring the State Gold Medal (for Civil Merit) for Antifascist Resistance. <<[…] The President of the Republic recognises the important role of the People of Centocelle who were able to react with indomitable courage, participating actively in the partisan struggle [...] a shining example of a common struggle, oriented towards the conquest of freedom and democracy". The result of a work that has seen the collaboration of scholars, committees, associations, this recognition is an important signal, because it goes in the direction of the reconstruction of [tessuto memoriale] Memory that risked to fall apart under the blows of mediocre narratives, revisionist temptations, political underestimations. Then, praise goes to all the organizations & the citizens which have made into reality this dream. Two events celebrated Centocelle today: the first was held at Campidoglio (City Hall of Rome) where Virginia Raggi, Mayor of Rome, awarded the gold medal and consequently hung on the Flag of Rome. The second event was held in Centocelle were Partisans and members of the public celebrated this important and long awaited reconsignment.
