London, 28/09/2013. Today, disabled activists, DPAC, WOW (War on Welfare), Occupy activists and the Dean of St Paul's Cathedral, David Ison, organised a demonstration in Parliament Square to protest against the Atos Work Capability Assessment. A carpet of white flowers was laid in memory of more than 10,000 disabled people who have committed suicide after undergoing the Government test made to assess the needs of people receiving benefits related to disability and ill health. At the end of the demonstration, a delegation delivered a letter to Number 10 Downing Street: <<In support of the demands set out in the WOW petition (http://wowpetition.com/), which has been signed by 52,000 people and calls for an immediate end to degrading way in which the government assesses the support needs given to valuable people in our community and a New Deal for sick & disabled people based on their needs, abilities and ambitions>>.
