London, 25/01/2016. Today, activists from "Nie Wieder - Never Again Ever" held a demonstration outside the Home Office to mark the Holocaust Memorial Day 2016 (which is officially commemorated on the 27th of January) and to protest against the British Government policies to welcome and house migrants and refugees. From the organisers Facebook page: << […] We are organising the vigil on the 25th of January instead of the official January 27th for all groups to be involved. […] The pile of shoes (visually linked to those left outside gas chambers in the death camps*) will be used to link the Jewish refugees of the 1930s, with current deaths as a result of government anti-migrant policy. 'Never Again Ever!' is a coalition of human rights groups that exists to pass on the legacy of survivors to activists today. Since 2015 there have been 3,771 migrant deaths in the Mediterranean* of 5,350 deaths worldwide and over 25 at the Calais / UK border*. The government's refusal to help people access their rights is driving desperate children, wives and husbands into the arms of traffickers, onto high speed train tracks and into the backs of suffocating lorries. There must be no more deaths. […] 'Never Again Ever!' is a coalition of human rights groups that exists to pass on the legacy of survivors to activists today. While the Nazi Holocaust is no longer with us, the phrase "Never Again" cannot be said definitively because the structural and philosophical problems that ultimately led to the Holocaust are still at play in the world around us. […] "Memorialisation without action is part of the problem! - We say “Never Again Ever!" […]>>. The demonstration was supported amongst others by Lesbians and Gays Support the Migrants (LGSM), In Place of War (IPOW), Black Triangle Campaign, Movement for Justice by Any Means Necessary.<br />
