Today, Lambeth residents and campaigners, Maggi Hambling (CBE, British contemporary painter and sculptor) and Vivienne Westwood (English fashion designer and businesswoman, largely responsible for bringing modern punk and new wave fashions into the mainstream, DBE, RDI) meet in London SW4 to hold a demonstration against the selling of the long-established housing co-operatives by the Lambeth Council and to defend the residents from the evictions. During the demonstration, "Barnard Marcus", the Estate Agency responsible for auctioning some of properties arrived for showing with potential buyers. From the "Lambeth United Housing Co-operative" website: <<[…] All those gathered for this photo op have pledged to defend residents of these housing co-ops against evictions, and have stated: We will stand with housing co-op residents when they refuse to leave their home, if Lambeth go through with their threat to send bailiffs to evict them. […] Lambeth's so-called 'co-operative' council is evicting members of housing co-operatives who have lived in the borough for periods of up to 40 years, with some residents in their 70s who have lived in their homes since the 1970s.
