The protest was called to fight the Decree made by the Interior Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini (League - Lega, 2.) accused by protesters & activists to be racist and restrictive of civil liberties. Moreover, the demo was called in support and solidarity with migrants, refugees, and with Domenico "Mimmo" Lucano, Mayor of Riace (see my stories here:
