Rome, 16/10/2019. Demo held outside the Italian Parliament in Piazza Montecitorio to protest against the ongoing Turkish unilateral military intervention in North-East Syria and Rojava, and in support and solidarity with the Kurdish People.
On Monday 07 October 2019 the White House released the following statement : "Turkey will soon be moving forward with its long-planned operation into Northern Syria [Operation Peace Spring]. The United States Armed Forces will not support or be involved in the operation, and US forces, having defeated the ISIS territorial 'Caliphate', will no longer be in the immediate area". With this move President Trump has allegedly abandoned his Kurdish allies (Syrian Democratic Forces, SDF are Kurdish-led Forces) of the war against IS (aka ISIS, Daesh, Islamic State) and, with his support to the Turkish invasion of North-East Syria, he could widen the eight-year Syrian conflict. Conversely, Turkish President, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, said the operation has the aim to create a "safe zone" cleared of Kurdish militias which will also house Syrian refugees. The European Union, numerous Nations across the planet, the UN have expressed concern and condemned this unilateral decision, urging Turkey to end its offensive.
The demonstration was organised by Rete Kurdistan Italia, Rete Kurdistan Roma & Centro Ararat.
