On the 22 March 2017 at around 14:40 a terrorist attack took place close to the Houses of Parliament in Westminster, London. A lone attacker, identified as the 52-year-old British citizen Khalid Masood (born as Adrian Russell Ajao), drove a rented dark-grey Hyundai Tucson into pedestrians on Westminster Bridge killing four people. A British woman of Spanish and Cypriot ancestry, Aysha Frade and US tourist Kurt Cochran were killed on Wednesday, while 75-year-old Londoner Leslie Rhodes died today in hospital. Andreea Cristea, a 31-year-old tourist from Romania, fell into the Thames during the attack; she died in hospital as a result of her injuries on 6 April after her life support was withdrawn. After running over at least 50 people on the Bridge, the attacker crashed the car into the railings surrounding the Houses of Parliament. Then, armed by a knife he stabbed an unarmed police officer, the 48-year-old PC Keith Palmer, who later died from the injuries. Finally the attacker was shot and killed by an armed police officer. Six people have died, including the police officer and the attacker. 29 people were treated in hospital. During the press conference of the 23 March 2017, the Prime Minister, Theresa May, stated that the attacker was British-born and had been investigated "some years ago" by MI5 in relation to violent extremism. On the same day, Islamic State (Isis) claimed responsibility for the attack. (Caption Updated: 12 April 2017).<br />
