London, 14/06/2017. Documenting the aftermath of the tragic blaze of the Grenfell Tower and the immediate reaction of Londoners, and other members of the public, who actively rallied to assist the residents and the neighbours who survived this horrific fire, showing solidarity and donating food, water, toys and clothes.
Today at 00:54 BST, a huge and very fast fire engulfed the 24-storey block, Grenfell Tower, in north Kensington. Seventeen people have died and many residents remain missing. Thirty patients are still in hospital, seventeen people of whom are in critical conditions. Forty-five fire engines and more than 200 firefighters were called to extinguish the blaze, which was under control at 01:14 BST on Thursday. The Grenfell Tower was built in 1974 as public housing flats. It is managed by Kensington and Chelsea Tenant Management Organisation (KCTMO), the largest tenant management organisation in England, working on behalf of Kensington & Chelsea Council. The tower block contains about 127 flats and between 400 and 600 people live in the building. The 'Safety Instructions' of the tower told people to "stay put" in their flat in case of fire. <<[…] Since 2013 the residents' organisation, Grenfell Action Group, had repeatedly expressed concern about fire safety and had warned in November 2016 that only a catastrophic fire would finally force the block's management to treat fire precautions and maintenance of fire-related systems to a proper standard […]>> (Source – Wikipedia.org). The tower was renovated in 2015–16 with a £10 million refurbishment project, which included new windows and new aluminium composite cladding and Reynolux material with thermal insulation (Caption updated on 15 June 2017, 22:42 BST).
