Today, ANPI Roma (National Association of Italian Partizans, Members of the WWII Italian Resistance) celebrated the 100th birthday of Partizan Iole Mancini holding a fully booked public event at the Casa della Memoria e della Storia di Roma (House of Memory and History of Rome). From the ANPI event page: «Iole, belonging to the Roman Resistance, was arrested during the days immediately before the liberation of Rome. She was interrogated and tortured by the SS (by Kappler himself) in Via Tasso prison, in an attempt to extort the place where her boyfriend Ernesto Borghesi was hiding, gappista (*), but without success. Fleeing the arrival of the Allies, the Germans loaded all the prisoners detained in the prison onto three trucks, but the truck on which Iole had been placed did not leave due to a breakdown. All the other prisoners were killed in La Storta.
