London, 19/05/2017. Today, Julian Assange, the Wikileaks founder, addressed the crowd and the world's media from the balcony of the Ecuadorian Embassy after the Swedish prosecutors dropped the rape investigation (carried on without charge) and revoked the European Arrest Warrant (EAW). However, Mr Assange, 45, is still not not free to leave the Ecuadorian Embassy, where he was granted asylum in 2012, because the MET Police Service stated that an arrest warrant is still in force due to Assange's failure to surrender to the British court (offence punishable by up to a year in prison or a fine). In the meantime, Ecuador has requested the UK to allow him safe passage out of the Country. Furthermore, it is still not clear whether the UK has received and extradition request from the United States, where Julian Assange is accused of leaking hundreds of thousands of secret US military and diplomatic documents. In February 2016, the United Nations Working Group on Arbitrary Detention stated he has being unlawfully held by Sweden and the UK and that his detention should be brought to an end immediately. Julian Assange lives in the Ecuadorian Embassy where the 16th August 2012 the (former) President of Ecuador Rafael Correa and his Government granted the Diplomatic Asylum to the founder of Wikileaks against the extradition request from Sweden made in 2012 for three allegations of sexual assault and one of rape.<br />
