London, 23/07/2014. Today, a demonstration in support and solidarity with Isabella Acevedo and her family was held outside the house of Mark Harper MP (Conservative Member of Parliament for Forest of Dean, former Minister of State for Immigration, and current Minister of State for Disabled People). Campaigners, led by the Australian activist Trenton Oldfield (for more information please click here:
http://bit.ly/1ksNK2x), gathered outside the building in Westminster Bridge Road to protest against the deportation of Ms Acevedo. From an article of the Guardian (Friday 18 July 2014,
http://bit.ly/1nXcOzo): << […] Acevedo had worked as Harper's cleaner for seven years until February, when the then immigration minister discovered she did not, as he had believed, have leave to remain in the UK. Harper, who had been responsible for the controversial "go home" adverts on vans urging illegal immigrants to leave Britain and was at the time steering an immigration bill through parliament that requires employers to check the status of their staff, resigned from his post. He was reappointed to the government in this week's reshuffle as a junior minister at the Department for Work and Pensions. He did not immediately respond to requests for comment. […]>>. Ms Acevedo is facing deportation to be returned to Colombia on flight BA 247 from Heathrow Terminal 5 at 7pm on Thursday 24 July.
