Today, Turkish activists, students, citizens, members of the Turkish Community living in Rome held a demo in Piazza Santi Apostoli to protest against the arrest on the 19th of March 2025 of the Mayor of Istanbul Ekrem İmamoğlu (Imamoglu), one of the main political opponent of the President of the Republic of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, and candidate of CHP Party for 2028 Turkish Presidential Election. Moreover, the protest was called in defence of Democracy and Civil / Human Rights in Turkey and in support and solidarity with the People protesting in Istanbul and across the Country. So far, in Istanbul also nine journalists covering the protests have been arrested. <br />
