London, 08/10/2011. Today Trafalgar Square was the stage of the "Antiwar Mass Assembly" organised by The Stop The War Coalition to mark the 10th Anniversary of the invasion of Afghanistan. Thousands of people gathered in the square to listen to speeches given by journalists, activists, politicians, trade union leaders, MPs, ex-soldiers, relatives and parents of soldiers and civilians killed during the conflict, and to see the performances of actors, musicians, writers, filmmakers and artists. The speakers, among others, included: Jeremy Corbin, Joe Glenton, Seumas Milne, Brian Eno, Sukri Sultan and Shadia Edwards-Dashti, Hetty Bower, Mark Cambell, Sanum Ghafoor, Andrew Murray, Lauren Booth, Kate Hudson, Sami Ramadani, Yvone Ridley, Mark Rylance, Dave Randall, Roger Lloyd-Pack, Rebecca Thorn, Sanasino al Yemen, Elvis McGonagall, Lowkey (Kareem Dennis), Tony Benn, John Hilary, Bruce Kent, John Pilger, Billy Hayes, Alison Louise Kennedy, Joan Humpheries, Jemima Khan, Julian Assange, Lindsey German, George Galloway. At the end of the speeches a group of protesters marched toward Downing Street where after a peaceful occupation the police made some arrests.
