Protester - 2011<br />
<br />
London, 14/12/2011. Thousands of Congolese people, activists and supporters gathered in Great Portland Street, outside the DR Congo embassy, to begin a march to Whitehall. They continue to protest against the alleged altered result of the election in their country, and to show the ongoing violence, atrocities, mass rapes and genocide that have been committed on the armless civilians in DR Congo. The march was peaceful, contained by a heavy police presence. In Whitehall the atmosphere became tense as some bottles were thrown on the road and a few fireworks were thrown towards police vans, though no people were injured. The deadline for the demonstration, set up by the police and the organisers, was 18.00. The march led protesters towards Trafalgar Square, escorted by police officers and dogs, where they had agreed to disperse. A small group of protesters gathered opposite Charing Cross station, but were kettled by police officers to prevent disturbances in the area.
