Rome, Italy. 21st April, 2022. Today, 21st of April, Rome celebrates its 2776th birthday, known as Natale di Roma (1. 2.). The foundation of the Eternal City by Romulus is dated in the year 753 BC. To mark this special day for the Italian Capital the Musei Capitolini displayed - at Palazzo dei Conservatori, Sala degli Arazzi - for the first time a glass fragment decorated with a gold effigy of the Dea Roma (Goddess Rome). «[…] During the ongoing works for the construction of the Porta Metronia Metro C station, a glass fragment was found, originally the bottom of a glass or cup, showing the image of the personification of the city of Rome portrayed on gold leaf and represented, according to widespread iconography, with a helmet and lance. The excellent workmanship of the piece was immediately evident, datable to the 4th century, so during the Imperial Age. It is also a unique piece, as no other glass has been found decorated with this iconography […]» (3.).<br />
