Rome, Italy. 11th November, 2022. Today, the Comunità Palestinese di Roma E Lazio (Palestinian Community of Rome and Lazio Region, 1.) and Al Fatah Italia held a sit-in in San Lorenzo to mark the 18th anniversary of the death of the historical Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat. <br />
Yasser Arafat (24 August 1929 – 11 November 2004) was the most famous Palestinian political leader, he was chairman of the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO / OLP) from 1969 ti 2004, and President of the Palestinian National Authority (PNA) from 1994 to 2004; he was a Socialist and was a founding member of the Fatah political party which he led from 1959 to 2004. In 1994, Arafat was awarded of the Nobel Peace Prize, alongside Israel Prime Ministers Yitzhak Rabin and Shimon Peres. After 2 years of confinement by the Israeli army in his Ramallah compound, Arafat died in a Paris hospital in 2004 at the age of 75. The cause of his death have since been debated and it has remained the subject of numerous doubts, speculations and controversies (2.).<br />
The event was attended, amongst others, by S.E. Abeer Odeh, Ambassador of Palestine in Italy, Dr. Yousef Salman, President of the Palestinian Community of Rome and Lazio, Federica Serratore, Partito Democratico Councillor of the II Municipality of Rome, and it was held near the Yasser Arafat memorial plaque.<br />
