Today, people gathered in Piazza dell'Esquilino to commemorate the 67 people, including about 20 children, who died on Sunday 26th of February, when a wooden sailing boat carrying migrant People crashed against rocks near Steccato Di Cutro in Calabria, the South-East Italian coast. The vessel was carrying mainly people from Afghanistan, Iran, Pakistan and was sailing from Turkey, it sank in rough seas very close to the shore of Calabria. 81 people had survived the shipwreck but the boat was allegedly carrying between 150 to 200 migrants.
The demonstration called for immediate freedom of movement for migrant People, to protest the migration policies made by the Italian Right-wing Meloni's Government, to let NGOs vessels to properly do their rescue missions in the Mediterranean and to open safe passages for the People who want to reach Europe.
